Sometimes people say they earned a shot. I think I can safely say I earned this one. I got up early five days in a row to attempt to get a great shot of the Old Patriarch Tree and the Tetons. Despite by best efforts, the first attempts resulted in fairly plain shots. The inner park loop road closes on October 31st each year. Time was running out. I got up early on the 31st, drove to the spot, and parked my truck with disappointment. I almost didn't even go out because of the thick fog. Time was running out. I decided to take the chance and hike the half mile trip through the sagebrush and dense fog. I set up the tripod and patiently waited. As if on some heavenly queue, the wind picked up, blowing the fog back and to the right. Row after row of clouds streaked across the sky revealing the majestic Tetons. It was a magic moment! I've been back numerous times since, but never had the same sort of experience.
